Chicago, IL - New Home Star hosted its first Quarterly Director Training of the year from February 5 to February 7 in Orlando, Florida. By flying out the firm’s Managers, Directors, and Vice Presidents from around the country, the leadership team was able to participate in specialized, executive-level training. This training’s curriculum was centered around time management and productivity; two key components that every successful leader needs to implement. The training speakers broke down these themes on a micro-level by presenting best practices for annual, quarterly, monthly, weekly, and daily planning to provide real-life takeaways that can be implemented following the event.
The three-day program consisted of classroom-style training, break-out groups, collaborative discussions, and an object-based learning activity where leaders were challenged to build a cardboard boat over a two-hour period with limited supplies and directions– forcing them to utilize effective time management techniques. “The concept of having the team participate in some non-traditional training is something we carried over from our 2019 Sales Rally after we witnessed first-hand the power it has both with training content and employee engagement,” says VP of Organizational Development, Keith McKinney. “Constructing a cardboard boat and then having them actually put their designs to the test and race them across a pool not only pushed our training theme and message harder, but it did so in an immersive and out-of-the-box way.”
As the organization continues to grow, New Home Star is placing a firm emphasis on managing time effectively to exceed organizational goals heading into a new decade– and this training set out to equip the management team with the necessary tools and skills to do just that.
