Chicago, IL - Last month, non-profit organization First Story presented New Home Star Founder David Rice with a prestigious award recognizing his philanthropic efforts. The non-profit, founded by one of the firm’s builder partners, Hayden Homes, honored Rice with their Abundance Award. This award acknowledges the true expression of philanthropy and recognizes the most influential individuals and companies whose giving spirit has made a significant impact on First Story and those the non-profit helps.
"When it comes to giving and volunteering, we immediately thought of Dave,” says Claire Duncan, Director of First Story. “His enthusiasm and conviction have taken New Home Star beyond just an annual contribution. As a result, the relationship with First Story has continued to grow, and so has the success of our giving spirits."
Dave and New Home Star’s support for First Story's mission to bring affordable homeownership to hard-working families are apparent through the efforts put forth as an organization. Since 2013, New Home Star has donated over $100,000 to First Story with $25,000 pledged for 2020. This year, the NHS team sponsored five First Story homes, making dreams come true for a cancer survivor, two veterans, a single mom, and a first-grade teacher.
New Home Star and Hayden Homes employees in the Pacific Northwest have also been inspired to join in the giving too! In 2015, a payroll giving program was created to encourage employees to make a pre-tax donation from their paycheck to First Story; those donations are then matched 100% by Hayden Homes.
“Giving back in meaningful ways is one of our company’s core values, and the relationship we have with First Story holds a special place in our hearts,” says Founder David Rice. “I was so honored and thankful to be a recipient of the Abundance Award, and I look forward to many more opportunities to contribute to First Story.”
