While every organization is different regarding how they operate and what they sell, there are key components that every good sales professional is going to need to master — patience, customer service, reliability, poise, great communicator, being a self-starter, and having a driven attitude to name a few. While these are among the top skills and traits necessary to be successful, it’s how we identify them that sets New Home Star apart.
Rather than looking solely at skills, traits, and accomplishments through a black and white viewpoint, New Home Star seeks and identifies candidates whose own mission and values align with the organization’s mission and core values. Reviewing and interviewing candidates through this lens not only allows us to analyze their skill set and characteristics, but it also enables the company to tie those skills and traits back to the things that matter the most to us.
New Home Star’s mission is to sell more homes more profitably for our builder partners while creating excellent careers for our people. In addition to our mission, two of our core values are to create significant value for our clients as well as being a sustainable premium service provider. What does each of those mean when we are interviewing candidates and selecting our future Rockstars? In order for a candidate to align with our mission and values, we need to identify individuals who have a strong desire to go above and beyond, even when no one is watching. We also ask questions and look for past experiences that suggest a candidate has a passion to ensure all their customers leave happy and will come back again in the future. Lastly, we search for candidates who are looking for a career with a company where they can plant their roots to grow and find continued successes for years to come.
While our mission and values mentioned above are deeply rooted in New Home Star’s culture and greatly impact the recruiting and selection process, another core value, and one that is an integral part of who we are as a company, is to give in meaningful ways. While our mission states we are operating to sell more homes more profitably, we must remember that we’re here to make a difference in other people’s lives, and one way we can do that is by giving to those in need and to the communities that allow us to do what we do each day. Even during this pandemic, we have found ways to give back to local communities through charitable giving to schools, teachers, and students as well as providing dozens of meals for the frontline service workers at our local hospitals, police stations, and fire stations.
Identifying and hiring candidates that can sell homes is great, but finding someone who can sell homes while caring more about others than themselves is the true identifier of a Rockstar sales professional.
